Malaysia’s most densely populates state attracts plenty of visitors especially at the end of the year when a bout of revelry spreads across the island in anticipation of the holiday season.

However, before the big Christmas celebrations get underway, Penang is livened up by the George Town Literary Festival, held from 23 to 25 November this year. Appreciating writers and celebrating the flavorful cultural diasporas in the region and beyond, this year’s 14 international writers from Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Belgium and as far as the Netherlands will expound on the theme ‘Voyages. Hopes. Dreams’, including a spoken poetry segment performed in English ,Malay, Hokkien, Tamil, Thai and Burmese. Other free events include live music, readings and poetry workshops.

Silkair, airasia, jetstar, and tigeraiways all fly direct from Singapore to penang. Alternatively, you could drive from Singapore to penang on the north-south expressway, but the journey will take approximately 10 hours. The drive from K.L. to Penang are available on Malaysia airlines and airasia.
